May 4, 2020The so called “keto flu” has been giving the popular keto diet a bad reputation lately. The reason behind it might be simpler than you think and the solution even simpler.
What is keto flu?
Keto flu is what we call the symptoms experienced by some people in the early days of the keto diet. The symptoms are usually that you are light-headed, but some can even experience muscle cramps or nausea.
How to avoid the keto flu?
There are two simple things you should do during the initial days of the keto diet.
- Stay hydrated.
- Eat salt
It is simple as that.
Either use sea salt or Himalayan (pink) salt that is unprocessed.
Take 1/2 teaspoon 4 times a day for the first week on the keto diet. Just put it in your palm and lick it up! Then drink a glass of water. Total of 5 grams of salt.
Why do we get the keto flu?
When you are starting the keto diet the body is detoxing the sugar and you will lose a lot of water. When losing the water you will lose electrolytes and minerals faster than normally.
The salt will help you keep the electrolytes and minerals, but it is not table salt. It has to be clear salt.
A magnesium supplement could also help you, espesially if you don’t eat of lot of avacados.
